Chavez Young Injury Update

Imagine going half way around the world to get some much-needed reps, having to quarantine for fourteen days upon arrival, missing family and friends at Christmas, having the team president step down while COVID restrictions helped postpone the start of the season, then injuring yourself after recording a hit in your first at bat.

Welcome to Australia, Chavez Young.

Luckily, the reports we’re getting from down under suggest the injury is more nagging than severe. Young was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double, and while he didn’t show obvious signs of an injury, he was clearly in some discomfort, and was removed from the game. An air cast on his foot the following day made things look quite serious.

It turns out that Young is likely struggling with plantar fasciitis, a condition familiar to many athletes. The good news is that it’s highly treatable, but the bad news is that time seems to be a huge part of any recovery. Canberra staff don’t believe it’s a situation that would require him to return to the Blue Jays complex in Florida for treatment, but it’s no doubt a situation they are monitoring closely.

If there’s a silver lining to Young’s injury, it’s that the Cavalry have ample time in between series for him to receive treatment and recuperate.
