Since we’re all playing “what if” right now, here’s our projected Lansing Lugnuts Opening Day lineup. The Lugs would have taken the field against West Michigan tonight to kick off their Midwest League season.
As to when this all begins, who knows? But it’s fun to do a little simulating just the same.
Lansing Lugnuts Projected 2020 Opening Day Lineup (2019 club in parentheses)
Leonardo Jimenez SS (Bluefield)
Tanner Morris 2B (Vancouver)
Miguel Hiraldo 3B (Bluefield)
Spencer Horwitz 1B (Bluefield/Vancouver)
Phil Clarke C (Vancouver)
Will Robertson RF (Vancouver)
Hagen Danner DH (Lansing)
DJ Neal LF (Lansing)
Hunter Steinmetz CF (Lansing)
Adam Kloffenstein P (Vancouver)
You can make all kinds of arguments about this lineup, and we might not disagree. There is a good chance Jordan Groshans might have spent at least another month to six weeks in Low A to make up for lost development time. And you could make a case for Orelvis Martinez making the jump from the GCL to Lansing to begin the season.
Let’s all continue to stay at home, keep our distance, wash our hands endlessly, and do whatever it takes to remain healthy both physically, cognitively, and emotionally during this time.
