July Draft Board Risers and Fallers

by Mason McRae

With nine players dropping from my top-fifty, it meas nine new players join the board. The first of those is catcher – Carlos Perez out of Miami, he’s an unknown prospect who has elite catch and throw abilities and a loose swing that comes and goes with power.

Rising to 31st is Corner infielder and outfielder Ethan Long, a power projection guy that has a loud bat. The 33rd, 34th, and 35th spots all are held by newcomers as well in Mario Zabala, Austin Wells, and Justin Foscue (in that order). Zabala popped up  at the PG Showcase where he showed off his arm and legs, while Austin showed up via the Cape Cod league and his success in there. Foscue was hidden in a loaded Mississippi State roster and I came to see him after watching every one of the CWS game’s again earlier this week.

At 37 is a standout from the USA Collegiate Team – Cade Cavelli, a hard throwing righty with command concerns when at his highest velo. At 44th is Jack Bulger, who was impressive in a High School Home run derby this week which included the likes of Zac Veen, Austin Hendrick, Blaze Jordan, and more. The second to last newly ranked player is a popup lefty in Kyle Harrison who has a low-90s arm with high upside.

Finally, the last riser is shortstop Ed Howard who’s a prototypical five-tool player with a slick glove and aggressive swing. Now, here’s my second top-fifty board which started with my June one that was released last month.
