It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…..for Toronto sports fans, it was mostly the latter yesterday, and the farm system was no exception, going 0-fer Saturday.

In Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Buffalo ran into old friend Drew Hutchinson, who fanned 8 Bisons en route to a 10-4 win.  Jordan Romano made his first start of the year for Buffalo after coming back from the Rangers, and after retiring the first four of the first six batters he faced, was gone in the 3rd inning after giving up 5 runs.  A bright spot for Buffalo was the bat of Bo Bichette, who went 3-5 blasted his first AAA Home Run.  3B Vladimir Guerrero was given the day off as he builds up in anticipation of his MLB debut.

The ball was flying in Hartford, where the home Yard Goats topped New Hampshire 9-6. Staked to a 1-0 lead, Fisher Cats starter Yennsy Diaz came out firing in the bottom of the 1st, striking out the first hitter on a 97 mph fastball.  Diaz caught entirely too much of the plate that frame however, giving up a pair of Home Runs as Hartford struck for four.  The Fisher Cats made things interesting with a three run 7th to pull within two, but Hartford added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning to ice the W.  Chad Spanberger hit his first AA Home Run in the loss for the Fisher Cats.

After breaking out offensively the past two games, Dunedin could muster only five hits in a 4-1 loss to Bradenton.  Turner Larkins had another strong start for the D-Jays, allowing only a pair of unearned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out 5.

In South Bend, the Lansing bats were cold as the Lugnuts fell 6-0 to the Cubs.  Lansing starter Fitz Stadler gave up 7 runs and 5 hits over three innings.  Cobi Johnson had his second straight solid outing, pitching four scoreless innings for the Lugs.

  1. I would expect Tellez to be back on August 1st at the latest, to stay. If the Jays are not contending by July, Smoak and/or Morales will likely go elsewhere, making room for Tellez.
