An up-the-middle player? Check.
MLB bloodlines? Check.
Young for his draft class? Check.
A polished bat? Check.
As D1 College play started last week, MLB draft guru Jeff Ellis of scout.com tabbed Clemson SS Logan Davidson as a player who checks a lot of boxes for the Blue Jays with their first pick, 11th overall.
Davidson, whose father Mark played 400+ games for the Twins and Astros, is an advanced bat who is described as an above average SS with plus speed. His stock has soared so far this spring despite a bit of a slow (1-8) start.
Davidson is something of a potential three true outcomes player, with 28 Home Runs, a 14.5% BB rate, and a 20.7% K rate over 2-and-a-bit college seasons. There are concerns that at 6’3″ he may outgrow the position, and his struggles with wooden bats in the Cape league the past two summers may be why Baseball America has him ranked 30th in their latest mock. That seems to be quite a discrepancy between the two lists, but Ellis’ draft board has been quite close to the Blue Jays’ the past two seasons.
Just for interest, BA has Georgia HS RHP Daniel Espino at the 11th spot at the moment, but there is little chance the risk-averse Blue Jays would select him.
Go after OF Cameron Misner. If he’s gone, go for LHP Graeme Stinson. Both are 55’s per mlb.com, while Davidson is a 50.

I think a college arm may be who they take, but no one else besides Jeff had Groshans ranked so high, so when he recommends a player, it’s worth considering.

Misner has all the tools – including speed, an arm, and power – and he’s an outfielder. The Jays need a surefire outfielder that could be ready by ’21 or ’22. That would be Misner if it’s any OFer in this draft.
I think they’ll pick up some nice pitching prospects at the deadline this year, and may not have quite as high a need for pitchers before long.
But, if Misner is gone, get Stinson. Or maybe Carter Stewart, if the injury problems are behind him…and if he lasts to the 11th pick.
